The technique matters more on decking than on almost any other surface. Too much pressure raises the grain and chews up the soft wood between the harder rings. We use a wide fan tip, hold it back from the boards, and work along the grain — not across it. The result is a clean board, not a fluffy one.

Composite decking is more forgiving in terms of pressure, but it stains and grows surface algae just as easily. We use a soft-wash approach with a manufacturer-safe detergent to lift grime without scrubbing.

Once the deck is clean and properly dry — usually overnight or longer in cooler weather — we can return to apply oil, stain or lacquer. We discuss the finish with you first: matt or satin, natural or tinted, slip-resistant or standard.
